The Cateye HL-EL530 bike light has been extensively tested and found to be a great lightweight bike light. Updated for Fall 2010 to be 50% brighter, with 2200 candlepower.
This light sets a new standard in brightness for an alkaline/lithium AA battery lamp, producing over 2200 candlepower from a single white LED. With the use of the latest in LED design, and Opticube lens technology, this light is a full 50% brighter than the previous version. The new Flex-Tight bracket makes it much easier to mount on large diameter mountain bike handle bars.
10 hours of headlight-quality run time and up to 90 hours of reduced light run time with 4 AA alkaline batteries. Get 13+ hours of headlight-quality and 120+ hours with lithium batteries. Lithium batteries also significantly reduce weight. It is really nice to turn your bike light on and not have to worry about conserving the burn time. Turn it on and let it run all night.
An easy to use magnetic switch makes it possible to have a 30 meter / 100 feet waterproof bike light. This is great feature for mountain biking because you never know when you will get wet. Two side light emitting areas add to safety by making you visible at night from the side, while not interfering with your night vision.
Quick release mount attaches to the handlebar with no tools and swivels so that you can point your light where you need it. Once the mount is attached the light body can be attached and removed with a simple slide.
You can ride significantly faster on some terrain with a brighter light system such as a NiteRider, but we have found the HL-EL530 great for when you want to go really light and don't want to carry a heavier bike light systems.
